Effect of Hardening Temperature on Maraging Steel Samples Prepared by Direct Metal Laser Sintering Process

This paper deals with the application of direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) process, which already has a dominant position in area additive manufacturing (AM). DMLS technology is used many branches industry and medicine, especially piece production, small series, prototypes. The portfolio powder materials includes aluminum alloys, austenitic steels, maraging special alloys nickel titanium. properties these products are very often improved by further heat treatment after printing, such as hardening microstructure hardness can be increased. Heat processes AM components described, but experiments focused on optimization still missing. In article, steel samples printed method subjected to testing processes, differ reducing maintaining time at defined temperature, recommended manufacturer. result evaluation will reaching similar results, set manufacturer, however, shorter treatment. Therefore, elevated temperature selected, purpose monitoring shortest possible impact. experimental was 590 °C different durations this for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6 h. cooling process runs controlled furnace or air. proved most ideal 1 h exposure cooled air, where higher value around 50 HRC reached. During resulting evaluations, fine carbids martensitic lamellae were observed. More uniform finer lamellar occurred intervals.
